State Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner (R) supports adoption of the Great Lakes Compact.
His fears about the Compact's single-state veto for some diversions appear unfounded, since current federal law does not include an exception in the Compact that helps New Berlin with a relatively easier, home-state-only approval process.
The Compact also establishes rules and standards for diversions to an out-of-basin community, like Waukesha, that are not spelled out in the current federal law, the Water Resources Development Act.
