High gas prices are leading to double-digit increases in ridership from 2007 on both commuter and light rail systems, reported the Associated Press.
Where: Minneapolis, St. Louis, San Francisco, Baltimore, Philadelphia and Harrisburg, PA, Oakland and Seattle.
Milwaukee's increase: 0%, with commuter rail taking a back seat to more highway expansion, and light rail off the table completely, as local and state politicians refuse to provide the public with transportation options.
Is bus ridership up in Milwaukee County? Have routes been eliminated because of lack of ridership? Being that buses are more flexible as to where they can go within Milwaukee County, wouldn't it make better sense to expand that (if ridership was up) as compared to building a rail system with limits? Your answers will tell why rail options shouldn't be considered here. Money could be better spent in other directions.
