By a unanimous vote of its rightwing talk radio jocks, and support from suburban legislators, Milwaukee has been forbidden from either bringing back its streetcars, adding light rail or initiating commuter rail.
"The city plans to pay for the system with existing tax revenue and $30 million in private investment. The plan requires the approval of Mayor Mark Mallory, a proponent, and the City Council."
ReplyDeleteHmm, seems the righties would support this. What is always interesting to me is how gentrification and streetcars seem to go hand and hand.
What you call gentrification brings in tax dollars, commerce and residents - - all of which a city needs to grow.
