Some proponents of the much-discussed $6 billion expansion of the Murphy Oil Co. refinery at Superior have suggested that outsiders are raising concerns about the expansion's impact on Lake Superior, surrounding wetlands and the air quality.
So local residents are making it clear that they have the same concerns, too.
So much for the outside agitator theory.
Check out the editorial response in the Saturdaty Telegram. Sounds more reasonable than the uninformed fear mongering of the Greens.

I've been keeping an eye on this project and quite honestly, you have been the most frequent agitator. Clean Wisconsin comes in a close second. You're both outsiders.
ReplyDeleteJan Conley is about the only local person I'm aware of raising much of an issue (and she isn't taken too seriously here as she's always worked up about something).
Other folks here seem to have an attitude of "let's see what gets proposed" before getting all worked up either way. If, and only if the project can be done in an environmentally sound manner then it would be good for Superior.
I'd like to think that when it comes to Lake Superior, we're all Wisconsinites, residents of the Great Lakes region, stewards of the world's fresh waters, and generally all in this boat together.
ReplyDeleteYou're right James, we're all in this boat together. The boat needs to be clean. However, it also needs a crew, an engine, and fuel!
