Sam McGovern-Rowen Runs Third; Campaign For Alderman Ends

Our son Sam McGovern-Rowen ran third in the eight-person field vying for the Milwaukee Third District race, so he does not advance to the general election.

The Journal Sentinel's account of the race is here.

Naturally, we feel badly about that. Sam ran a positive race, didn't pander, didn't spin, but couldn't get past two other candidates.

He had the most City Hall experience in the race, and would have made an excellent Alderman, but it didn't work out.

So it goes.

  1. Chin up brother, he'll be back. In the meantime, congratulations on an exemplary campaign.

  2. It was only 8 years ago that a guy named Barack Obama lost a Democratic primary for Congress. Of course, with a name like that, how could he ever expect to get elected?

Let's see where young Sam is in 8 years. He was a good candidate who ran a good campaign, and I'm sure is committed to public service whether he ever runs again or not.

I know you're proud of him. You should be.

  3. Thank you, Bill.

    We are proud of him.

It has been really something to watch Sam emerge as a public person, speaking at forums where he was poised and knowledgeable, and defined a program that hung together.

We also got to meet all energetic these younger people who got into a campaign for the first time. I know you've seen that before. It's uplifting.

As is the support of good friends, so thank you again.
