Minneapolis Star-Tribune Writer Offers Powerful Bridge Collapse Column

Nick Coleman's piece after the I-35W bridge collapsed speaks many truths, especially to the "no-new-taxes" crowd.

  1. Yes. In Wisconsin with the highest gas tax should hike it another $0.07 a gallon to fill the hole in the transportation fund that Doyle used his veto pen to spread even larger.

The no new taxers here offered fee increases to fill it and then set out a phased-in plan to transfer sales taxes from vehicles to the transportation fund.

Sounds like they just don't care about roads and people.

Oh yeah, we should just divert highway money to rail projects that attract few riders. Brilliant. Then you will see the road infrastructure fall apart.

You will use just about anything to rationalize tax increases.
