It is the story...I saw the Railway Man last summer. It is the story of a British soldier, Eric Lomax, captured by the Japanese and tortured in a POW camp by, among other tortures, water boarding. The movie is about Eric Lomax's confrontation and eventual forgiveness of one of his Japanese torturers. The movie website, IMDb, featured a message board discussion with one commenter referring to the waterboading scene as bogus. A number of back and forth comments resulted in this gem:

"I don't know if you've ever been water boarded. Eric Lomax certainly was. It was Eric Lomax - soldier and victim of torture - who said there was no difference between the torture he experienced and the torture used currently in off-shore facilities such as Guantanamo. He did so in an open letter to George Bush which was published in the New York Times. To dismiss the testimony of men who fought for freedom shows a lack of respect for the men who won your freedom.
Eric also pointed out - what is obvious to all but the mentally enfeebled - that information obtained under torture is always, everywhere and for all purposes utterly worthless.
Avoiding being "just as bad" is a pretty low target to set yourself by the way. How about setting out to be better?"

It is worth noting that John McCain, Republican Senator and former POW, supported the release of the report on CIA torture.mikeutzingerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13031185191895655099noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6621691715090523319.post-53354589852016447592014-12-14T14:04:41.894-06:002014-12-14T14:04:41.894-06:00Why do the Sunday morning talk shows keep trotting...Why do the Sunday morning talk shows keep trotting out this ghoul and treating him as if he's credible?

Unless to see what outrageous lie he's going to mutter next.

Of course he's going to vigorously defend his torturous legacy--there is still a chance he could be prosecuted.

He should be buried with one silver stake through his little black heart and another through his throat so that he can neither rise nor speak again.Max B.noreply@blogger.com
