Ron Johnson One Of Three "No" Votes On Vets' Care Bill

Ron Johnson isn't just outside the mainstream of Wisconsin values, or the political world in Washington, DC, where Congress is finally addressing the scandalouslsy-inefficient Veterans Administration by approving more patient options and services options :

Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) said the bill’s spending, which does not include commensurate cuts or new revenue, goes “beyond” what he believes is proper. CBO said in a “highly uncertain” preliminary estimate that the bill’s health care enhancements would increase spending by $35 billion over 10 years.
“There’s some good things in the bill. I really think there are,” he said. “But I have to say that I cannot suggest to my colleagues that the budget violations now before us should be waived. They should not."
Despite Sessions’ objection, the Senate easily defeated his point of order, 75-19. And conservative groups that often dump on bills that contain new spending were mostly quiet in the hours before the vote. Three Republicans opposed the bill: Sens. Bob Corker of Tennessee, Ron Johnson of Wisconsin and Sessions.
Saying that providing vets with life-saving health care is too expensive puts him outside the rest of the humanity.

The initial CBO report stated that the increase to the VA budget would be $35 billion in the first 2.5 years - and then $50 Billion per year after that. The 10 year increase would be about $430 billion - not the $35 billion you state.

That's my man!
Virginia sent a message to weak kneed Republicans. There will be many primary races with similar results.

Remember: A politician is someone who will lay down your life for his country.
Also remember: Don't send them to war if you are not going to care for them

So instead of structural reforms at the VA, we are just going to throw more money at it? Great response. It is a shame that Ron Johnson is going to take a political hit for this, because all he is saying is lets have reforms before we spend money. That blank check for Hurricane Katrina turned out so well.

Anon 5:31, Agreed. The liberal solution to any problem is to throw more money at the problem and hope it goes away. The main problem is more likely a complete lack of competent leadership that has plagued most government agencies for a least a decade.
