WI DNR Posts Recent Wolf Hunt Summary, Data

The Wisconsin DNR has posted its report on the 2013/14 wolf hunt season.

The information will be discussed at the upcoming 5/19 wolf advisory committee meeting in Wausau.

You can access the report, here.

A couple of things jumped out at me:

*  The allowable delay in submitting carcasses to the DNR for examination of possible dog bites through wolf/dog fighting allows the evidence to significantly decay and muddies the issue. That period has to be greatly shortened if the DNR is serious about determining if dogs and wolves are fighting prior to the wolves being shot and killed.

*  The DNR is writing up complaints and issuing citations against hunters and trappers who break the law or rules. More detail should be included about the infractions and circumstances in an annual evaluation.

More later. Comments welcome.
