One WI Hunt Zone Could See 1st Wolf-Dog Conflicts

The huge boost in Wisconsin wolf kill quotas for this year's hunt has left one area in NW Wisconsin with a large 'harvest' unfulfilled - - surprise! - -  so there might be violent hunting-dog/wolf pack conflict beginning on December 2nd in Zone 3 (from Burnett County east to the Wisconsin River).

That's because December 2 is the day the DNR says it will be OK for Wisconsin hunters to unleash their dogs to pursue wolves.

The DNR says trappers and hunters have killed 188 wolves in the hunt's first three weeks - - the kill in all of the 2102 hunt was 117 - -  and most of the remaining kills to hit the 2013 quota of 251 will be available in Zone 3, DNR data show.

57 of 63 available, to be exact,

The dog issue is still hung up in state appeals court, however, so stay tuned.

Details, here.
