Only a racist would suggest that a persons observations are invalid due to their race and the predominant race of their district.

But the racists that send they homophobe to madison year-after-year watch Faux News, listen to Charlie Sykes, Mark Belling, and WTMJ, and read Journal Communications or Lee Enterprises or Gannett propaganda.

Folks in West Bend & Washington County don't need to actually have any contact with any of the groups of Americans they hate -- their media echo chamber does all the hatin' for them.

The haters up there merely have to re-electing this knuckle-dragger, listen to squawk radio, and read the spoonfed propaganda in the nooozepapers.

I really hope some nice people who celebrate this holiday will take him under their wing and teach him something about their culture. Grothman appears to be ignorant of and possibly fearful of black culture. People really need to get out more and talk to people with an open mind.

In a way we can thank Glenn for vocalizing these ideas because many people have ridiculous stereotypes about other people and don't even realize how wrong they are. Once the ideas are out in the open they can be addressed.

I bet he is not the only one in this state who thinks this way.

Hilarious that the first comment is of the "YOU'RE the real racists!" variety.

It's all knee jerk talking point retorts with the NonnaTrolls. What I wonder is, do they have these things committed to memory, or do they have a script next to the computer, like call-center people do? And if they have a script, where does it come from? Is it updated often? Are they still getting Wingnut Welfare payments for posting on liberal blogs?

Trolls. They make me curious.

Grothman is playing to the racist and homophobic Republican base in his gerrymandered district. One of the more serious consequences of gerrymandering, aside from election-rigging, is that it tends to guarantee extremists like Grothman a safe district. As a result, he's becoming the David Duke of Wisconsin.

Grothman, another one of those homophobic lifelong-bachelors that the GOP has so many of, is a world class publicity hound. It's definitely not safe to get between him and a camera or microphone.

Unfortunately, the more publicity he gets, the more his demented party base thinks he is doing a good job. Demanding an apology from him is mistake that plays right into the melodramatic Kulturkampf he is waging, giving him the status of being a victim of the multicultural liberal conspiracy.

Constant ridicule is the best response. Does John Stewart read this blog?

I especially like Grothman's statement that it's not a 'real holiday'.

LOL. Just made-up, I guess. Like Thanksgiving, Valentine's Day, President's Day, Christmas....every holiday got invented at some point. It's not like New Year's Day existed before there was a calendar....

Although I imagine he also has a similar problem with Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

I would NOT take that bet. As a matter of fact, over the holidays I was witness to a discussion by one of my in-laws about how blacks can't be place-kickers because they are mentally unable to handle it.

Grothman may not be the only one in the state that thinks this way, but he certainly identifies himself as the singular idiot who sent the press release.

Even if he were correct about Kwanzaa (ha, ha) WHO CARES? There is no issue here: 1) He proposes no legislation. 2) He calls for no action. He merely complains that he has to "hear" about a different tradition that he obviously knows nothing about and on the surface appears to be speaking on behalf of a group he neither represents nor understands (look at his picture--he's whiter than white.)
If it weren't for Grothman's press release, it would have been just another day of sloughing off skin cells and trying to tease his mother's cat. You can't even call this an attention-getting stunt. Stunt implies at least a small amount of cleverness. Cleverness is to Grothman as dazzle is to gravel.
Grothman is dull, dull, dull. So dull his mother tried to suffocate herself with her pillow just to get away from him. So dull traffic lights get stuck on blinking yellow when he approaches the intersection. So dull his mother's furniture is wishing for a fire. So dull I'm in a stupor from trying to describe his dullness. So dull I can't command the energy it would take to type who cares in all caps.

Its RACIST to point out RACISM!

We have no choice but to mindlessly accept the ignorant rants of those that would "divide and conquer" us because because OBJECTIVE DEMONSTATIVE AND VERIFIABLE FACTS ARE THEMSELVES RACIST.

We now return you to FAUX NEWS programing and if the moral doesn't improve, more beatings will ensure.

Scott Walker will flip Wisconsin to a red "right to work" state before you know it.

Wasn't he the senator a couple years back who made his staff work on Martin Luther King Jr. Day because he thought that was a bogus holiday too and that state employees already get too many days off?

@Zombie. There only are two real and valid hollidays... first one is New Year's Day and that is then celebration of creations first day of which He said "let their be light" and the other only holiday(Holy Day) is Christnas... enough said there. Then maybe you have to count Easter too but, then only that. So three hollidays are only real ones. This is not disputatable.

I find it interesting that US citizens are described as "Black" and "African American".

I've know American citizens with skin color darker than mine or that of my friends of Hispanic decent, but their ancestors were not from Africa.

Pretty broad based paint brush there we're using to be politically correct.

@ Anonymous 2>40pm: You may be thinking of former State Senator Tom Reynolds, another uber-religious nut from West Allis (not THIS uber-religious nut from West BEND) who asked illegal employment interview questions of potential staff because he had the mistaken idea they were HIS employees, not State of Wisconsin hires. Still, illegal questions. I don't know if he did the MLK diss you reference above, but it sounds suspiciously like him.

Senator Grothman represents the slow-witted, mouth-breathing, basement-dwelling, albino-hued, involuntarily-virginal, self-flagellating, drum-hating, snort-laugher, shifty-eyed, lizard-licker, weirdo community. How he ever made it from face down in a high school trash can to law school is an abject failure of the legal system. With apologies to mouth breathing albino virgin weirdos and lizard likers, etc.

The commentators on this blog need an introspective look at the hate speech for the cause they represent.

Anon@4:03: you should put a nym to that. That was pretty fine. Can't tell if the "/s" stood for sarcasm or satire, though.

Either way, slow clap.

Hey January 4,6:21 AM:
I APOLOGIZED to mouth breathing albino virgin weirdos and lizard li[c]kers, etc--OK? If any of those terms offended you, I suggest you introspect yourself and ask why you like to lick lizards?
I don't hate Grothman, I just hate all the stuff he says and most of what he does. He's a judgmental misanthrope who doesn't belong in a society with people in it. I do resent him for not doing the job he is being paid by me and Wisconsin taxpayers to do: represent a district. If he just sat in a corner of his mother's basement, he could lick all the lizards he wants for all I care. As far as I can tell, he represents no one but himself. So sue me if I get a giggle out of calling him a basement-dwelling virgin. I'm not the first.
. . . and that's all if you were addressing the hate speech comment to me :) !

Anon 4:39 -

If you disagree with someone -fine.

Your free speech right allows you to say what you want (without slander) without repercussion. Thank God we all live in America!

If you really want to be taken seriously about your point of view, try being respectful rather than hateful and offensive. As I read your post it's not only hate speech, it's childish.

No.

It's not hate speech. Merely disagreeing with someone is not hate speech. Grothman is an idiot and a liar and a plagiarist (he lifted pretty much the entire statement from an Ann Coulter column) and pointing that out is not hate speech, regardless of how strong the words might be. Calling out a liar when he lies is not hate speech, regardless of what Faux News says about it. If there is any hate speech happening here, it is on Grothman's side and saying "I know you are but what am I?" is only a weak, stupid argument

I stand by every lizard-licking word.

Zombie,

The childish hate speech goes way beyond disagreeing with someone's point of view. It crosses over the line.
I'm a conservative blue collar union worker. I don't need to stoop to the lowest common denominator to make a point.
Take the high road.
