Dom Noth Says Election Results Reveal Tasks For Progressives

Labor writer and former Journal Sentinel newsroom colleague Dom Noth has posted another of his solid political analyses - - this time summing up Tuesday's election - - and looking ahead to a spring recall election where everything is on the line for progressives.

This is Noth's takeaway:

...Wisconsin’s fastest growing minority, Latino citizens, also successful in challenges to the voter ID law and the GOP redistricting maps, are now the most energetic and most progressive faction in the electorate and proved it April 3.

Yet in Milwaukee, the largest entrenched minority, the ones most suffering from lack of jobs and poverty, African Americans, seems the most complacent about using the ballot box to correct their conditions. Maybe because it didn’t solve things before...
The distinct lack of involvement of the black minority community, judging by the voting numbers in too many inner city districts, suggests organizers who think their engagement in the recall is essential to defeating Walker – well, they have their work cut out for them.
I agree with Dom.

Running less than qualified candidates should not be "progressives" goal. Seriously, Biddle is a good progressive? Peggy West is "form" of a progressive that we need more of?

How about the Labor Council concentrate on getting democrats elected when they run against republicans. Put the effort into keeping Tony Staskunas in office, work to keep the empty Cullen seat democrat.

It is likely because of redustricting both will become GOP. Democrats will lose seats in the Assembly and the Labor Council will blame everyone else when they can't repeal ACT 10.

Epic Labor fail.

You do realize that turnout was higher than normal in just about every central city district.
