Rick Perry's Memory Freeze Made Perfect Sense

A Texas Governor could be forgiven forgetting the tricky words "Energy Department," as Texas has few energy resources, energy-related jobs, energy income, and little energy history.

I checked Perry's official state website today, and found only the top news story at the opening of the page is about the oil and gas pipeline industry.

Gov. Perry Announces TEF Investment in Flexsteel Pipeline Technologies to Create 130 Jobs in Baytow
Moreover, only one of seven "Initiatives" buttons on the site is called "Energy."

With this ambiguous, forgettable introduction that mentions "energy" only four times in three sentences :

Governing Principle

From the oilfields of the 1901 Spindletop strike to today’s growing wind farms of the west Texas plains, energy has played a key role in the development and prosperity of Texas and Texans alike.
Through incentive and innovation, Texas has successfully diversified its energy portfolio, exploring all energy options from solar and wind to natural gas, nuclear and clean coal. Led by the ingenuity, vision and boldness of Texas entrepreneurs and state support of promising technology, Texas is pointing the way toward energy independence for our nation.
So cut the guy some slack.  End of statement. Period.
