Great Transit News - - Milwaukee's Long-Awaited Downtown Streetcar System Picking Up Fresh Speed
The Milwaukee Common Council's leadership committee voted Thursday to move the city's proposed modern streetcar system one step closer to ground-breaking, ending the stalemating of transit improvements since 1991 and blocked by talk radio and Republican politicians in the suburbs, the County Exec's office and the State Capitol for nearly as long.
It's a great step forward for the city, for development, for transit users of all ages and classes, so hats off to the Mayor and the near-unanimous vote of the Council's leaders and committee chairs.
And to the grassroots movement that got the word to aldermen that people want modern transit, now.

Who is going to pay for all the cost over runs. What are you going to say when the ridership is almost nil?

The renderings make Milwaukee look modern! What a great start and then expand to Miller Park, New Berlin and beyond! Perhaps the federal lawsuit against NB will help them see the wisdom of convienient mass transportation to their lovely city where low income workers can hop on the streetcar and be at their minimum wage job in no time at all! No need to live there. Who would want to after hearing the bigotry and hatred spewing from the mouths of NB residents. I digressed.
To Anony: Do you ask these questions with regard to the freeway system, land acquisition, plowing, maintenance, expansion, patrolling and other costs?
