Help Elect Better People In South Carolina

Remember Joe Wilson, the South Carolina Republican Congressman who shouted "you lie" during President Barack Obama's State of the Union address?

Yeah, the same state where another State Senate Republican called a woman running for the Republican nomination for Governor, and President Obama, "ragheads."

Classy!

There's a Democrat running against Joe Wilson named Rob Miller. He's got an interesting take on the "raghead" episode. And a pitch for his campaign, too, below:

ROB MILLER FOR CONGRESS

48 hours ago, nobody knew who Jake Knotts is. Now, he's joining his political patron Joe Wilson in South Carolina's Hall of Shame. Wilson shouted down our President; Knotts just settled for calling our President and a state representative "ragheads".

"We got a raghead in Washington; we don't need one in South Carolina," Knotts said more than once. "She's a raghead that's ashamed of her religion trying to hide it behind being Methodist for political reasons."

-- South Carolina State Senator Jake Knotts, as reported by the Columbia Free Times

Joe Wilson has been an adviser to Knotts since his first run for the statehouse in 1994, and Wilson's law firm gave more than $1000 to Knotts' campaign. Wilson even made a television ad endorsing Knotts in 2008. Jake Knotts and Joe Wilson are longtime political allies. Now video of Jake Knotts' racist outburst is being suppressed by a man who cashes checks from Wilson.

Jake Knotts' hate speech is speaking for itself, because the video of the interview isn't being released. The host who is refusing to release it is Wes Donehue, a Republican operative on the payroll of Congressman Joe Wilson.

This type of dirty politics is exactly what is wrong in Washington and South Carolina today. We can't change politics, until we start changing the politicians. It's time for fresh leadership that will act with the independence and accountability we deserve.

Help end this era of broken politics by contributing today.
