CNU Chapter Forming In Milwaukee: Details

Organizing for an urban agenda is moving along in Milwaukee.

The Congress for the New Urbanism Wisconsin’s first regular in-person business meeting is scheduled for Monday, March 8 at 6pm at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Milwaukee’s east side.

Here’s what people will be discussing:

· Developing business & academic partnerships

· Social get-together’s to meet and network

· Fund raising

· Planning presentations and events to learn about new urbanism and more

· Gaining student involvement; membership drive

· Working toward becoming a full chapter with the national CNU org

· Hosting the upcoming major national Congress being held in Madison in 2011

CNU Wisconsin is developing a chapter of the national Congress for the New Urbanism



Building Location on UWM Campus:

The School of Architecture and Urban Planning (AUP) is a red brick building located at 2131 E. Hartford Ave. on the corner of Hartford and Maryland Avenues.

Room Location:

The room is AUP345 – on the third floor. It is located on the southeast corner of the building.

Take the Bus:

Milwaukee County Transit System Route #30, both the Prospect-Maryland route, and the Jackson-Downer route, travel to and from campus about every 15-20 minutes. A bus stop is near the corner of Hartford & Maryland for both routes. Call 414-344-6711 for more info or visit www.ridemcts.com .

Bike Racks:

Near south entrance and in courtyard on the east side (enter from driveway off Hartford Ave. )

Parking: Please allow plenty of time to find parking

· There is a parking lot directly to the west of the AUP building. Enter from Hartford Avenue on the west side of the AUP building on a narrow driveway leading to the back of the building – this narrow drive is easy to miss because there’s no prominent signage, however, there’s a sign for Englemann Hall near the entrance of the driveway. Metered prkg at .25/20 minutes.

· A second lot is about one block west of AUP building along Hartford Avenue located on west side of the Cunningham bldg – there’s a prominent parking sign there. Use pay station to deposit cash.

· A third lot is under the School of Business , to the east of the AUP building and across the street entrance off of Maryland Avenue . If traveling north on Maryland – take a right mid-block. Charges?

· On-street metered parking is available – but usually very difficult to find. It’s .25/30 minutes.
