Less Midwest In Midwest Airlines: Continuing Story

More layoffs take place at Midwest Airlines, as new owner Republic (a very old regional name in these parts) continues to substitute its Brazilian-made aircraft for Midwest's Boeings, and cheaper flight crews to operate them.

Soon, Midwest will be an airline-in-name-only, more associated with cookies than actual flights.

Where are all those folks who were whining and moaning about potentially losing our beloved home town airline? I rememeber many conversations on radio about what a travesty this would be for the city... Airtran, oh that would be horrible I heard. I for one would put up with the horror of an expanded Airtran that would have BROUGHT jobs to the city rather than cut them.

"Midwest Airlines" has been going down the road of being nothing more than a brand name, like many other marquee airlines have, for awhile now.

Our "hometown' airline is no longer and I doubt one will ever hold that title again.

In hindsight it is very possible that a merger with Air Tran would have been the better option.

I was an agnostic on this one - never had a real good feel on which option was the preferred outcome for Milwaukee.

Either way I do not think it would have turned out well for Milwaukee area employees.
