Repetitive Great Lakes Pollution By British Petroleum Sparks Congressional Probe Demand

Members of Congress are rightfully calling for an investigation into revelations that British Petroleum has been routinely polluting Lake Michigan with benzene discharges from its Whiting, IN refinery.

BP was given permission some months ago by Indiana regulators to add additional ammonia pollutants to the lake, only to spark an outcry that led BP to announce on-site decontamination.

How and why Indiana regulators ever approved that ammonia discharge permit is beyond me, but now lets hope investigators unravel just how the refinery was able, for years, to dump benzene in the lake without anyone stopping it.
