Reagan Redux: The GOP Will Turn To An Actor Again, Not Tommy Thompson

Watched 15 minutes of the GOP debate. Ten coiffed, squeaky-clean older white males, lined up like prospective pledges at Rush Week. What a snorefest.

Were those guys running for President of a diverse, melting pot nation or chairman of the membership committee at the country club?

Our guy Gov. Tommy took one question when I was watching, and hugely muffed it, opining that an employer should have the right to fire a gay employe if the employer thought homosexuality was immoral.

Oops: that's illegal, and for the second time in three weeks, he had to apologize about what happened when he said something ridiculous.

Tommy was out of place with zero confidence on that stage. Give him the hook.

A Wall Street Journal writer has this observation, and it's not pretty.

I thought I'd never say it, but I agree with the Peggy Noonan: Get ready for the actor Fred Thompson. Compared to that group, he's a Giant.

An actor came to the GOP's rescue once before, and if Ronald Reagan could win that party's nomination when it needed star power, so can the guy from "Law and Order."

One more thing: Tommy was definitely not cookin' during the debate, but, to be fair, here's proof that he knows how.
